Interview with Darren Aspinall, architect. Age 26. Comes
from Wigan, Greater Manchester.
What does your job involve?
Why does it take such a long
time to train as an architect?
The format for training is an initial three-year degree at
university, one year out working in practice, a further two-year
degree course followed by another year working in practice.
Finally, to become a chartered architect you have to take
a professional studies diploma while working in practice.
To design buildings architects need a wide understanding across
a number of disciplines, such as structural design, urban
design, contract law, construction and knowledge of materials.
Did you always want to be
an architect?
Where do you see yourself
five years from now?
What about the financial
rewards?
Which aspects of your work
do you like the most?
What about the not so good
bits?
Any advice?
And do you look forward to
work every day?
