Interview with Gary Pennick, design and technology teacher
Age 28. Comes from Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Did you originally set out
to be a teacher?
No, I set off doing 'A' levels at school in art and design
but I found art 'A' level too restrictive. After a year I
got some good advice from a teacher - like most kids I didn't
realise then that teachers are trying to help you - who pointed
me towards a BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design at a local
college in York.
You were happier studying on
a more general course?
Why did you decide on teaching?
How did you get into it?
Then a teaching qualification
followed?
And now you're doing it for
real?
What's the best thing about
what you do? Would you
say teaching was a good career to go into?
What about the bad bits?
And the financial rewards?
Have you any advice for someone
considering a career in teaching?
And do you look forward to
work everyday?
