Interview with Gary Pennick, design and technology teacher
Age 28. Comes from Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Did you originally set out
to be a teacher?
You were happier studying on
a more general course?
Why did you decide on teaching?
How did you get into it?
I got the opportunity to work on a voluntary basis as an artist
in residence at a primary school in my home town. It was a
great experience and allowed me to find out if teaching was
right for me. I funded myself through freelance design work
which was good experience too.
Then a teaching qualification
followed?
And now you're doing it for
real?
What's the best thing about
what you do? Would you
say teaching was a good career to go into?
What about the bad bits?
And the financial rewards?
Have you any advice for someone
considering a career in teaching?
And do you look forward to
work everyday?
