Interview with Mah Rana, jeweller Age 35. Comes from London.
Did you always want to
be a jeweller?
What exactly did you study?
What did you do after the
Royal College of Art?
It's quite common in my field to take a space in an existing
workshop and this is what I did. It means you can work with
other self-employed craftspeople and learn from their experiences.
It's a gentle introduction to the business side of your craft.
You can find out how to go about getting the different grants
and allowances and how to approach galleries. It was important
to me too, after working with others at college, not to be
isolated when I left.
How did you become established?
So your business became
successful?
There are different strands
to your career. Is this deliberate?
What aspect of your work
gives you the most pleasure?
What do you like least?
Last question. Do you look
forward to work everyday?
