Interview with Janice Kirkpatrick,
Age 41. Comes from Dumfries.
Janice is a Director of Graven Images in Glasgow. Graven Images
is a successful design consultancy offering architecture, interior design
and graphic design skills and services. Janice, who studied graphic
design at Glasgow School of Art, and co-director Ross Hunter, founded
the company after leaving art school.
Did you set out to work in design?
No, I didn't really have a clue what I wanted to do when I was at school.
I was interested in biology, architecture and geography. It was my art teacher who really thought
I should go to art school and when I got there I thought 'Yes, this is me'. I loved the way of
learning through continuous assessment - I'd always hated exams. In fact, I used to pity my friends
on exam-based courses.
What do you do each day?
You sound like you really enjoy it.
Does the job pay well too?
What would your advice be to someone just starting out?
And when you wake up in the mornings, do you look forward to work?
