Interview with Janice Kirkpatrick,
Age 41. Comes from Dumfries.
Janice is a Director of Graven Images in Glasgow. Graven Images
is a successful design consultancy offering architecture, interior design
and graphic design skills and services. Janice, who studied graphic
design at Glasgow School of Art, and co-director Ross Hunter, founded
the company after leaving art school.
Did you set out to work in design?
Was it hard setting up your own business?
Not really. We set up Graven Images when I was still studying for my MA
(a post-graduate degree) and we managed to get enough grants and allowances to keep us going
for a year while we found our feet. Clients came very quickly through word of mouth.
What do you do each day?
You sound like you really enjoy it.
Does the job pay well too?
What would your advice be to someone just starting out?
And when you wake up in the mornings, do you look forward to work?
