Interview with Janice Kirkpatrick,
Age 41. Comes from Dumfries.
Janice is a Director of Graven Images in Glasgow. Graven Images
is a successful design consultancy offering architecture, interior design
and graphic design skills and services. Janice, who studied graphic
design at Glasgow School of Art, and co-director Ross Hunter, founded
the company after leaving art school.
Did you set out to work in design?
Was it hard setting up your own business?
What do you do each day?
You sound like you really enjoy it.
Yes, I do. You just never know what's going to come in the door from one day to
the next. To work in this business you need to have a real interest in lots of
different areas along with a broad general knowledge. We don't want 9 to 5 people.
We want people who can really think, people who have an attitude,
people who are on a mission!
Does the job pay well too?
What would your advice be to someone just starting out?
And when you wake up in the mornings, do you look forward to work?
