Interview with Gary Pennick, design and technology teacher
Age 28. Comes from Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Did you originally set out
to be a teacher?
You were happier studying on
a more general course?
Why did you decide on teaching?
How did you get into it?
Then a teaching qualification
followed?
Yes, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Art
and Design at Middlesex University. It's a one-year course.
Courses vary but the Middlesex course involved one day a week
in college and four days a week on teaching practice in schools.
And now you're doing it for
real?
What's the best thing about
what you do? Would you
say teaching was a good career to go into?
What about the bad bits?
And the financial rewards?
Have you any advice for someone
considering a career in teaching?
And do you look forward to
work everyday?
