Interview with Gary Pennick, design and technology teacher
Age 28. Comes from Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Did you originally set out
to be a teacher?
You were happier studying on
a more general course?
Why did you decide on teaching?
How did you get into it?
Then a teaching qualification
followed?
And now you're doing it for
real?
What's the best thing about
what you do? Would you
say teaching was a good career to go into?
Oh, it's incredibly fulfilling to see kids working hard
and actually achieving something. And yes, I think it is a
good career. You do have to be committed to it though. A lot
of people - kids and staff - are relying on you and if you
fail then you're letting all those people down.
What about the bad bits?
And the financial rewards?
Have you any advice for someone
considering a career in teaching?
And do you look forward to
work everyday?
