Interview with Hannah Barnes-Murphy, book editor. Age
24. Comes from Salisbury, Wiltshire.
What does a book editor do?
Well, I project manage a book, usually working on two titles
at any one time. My job is to see the book through from manuscript
stage to the final printed version. I liaise with the commissioning
editor, the author and the design and production departments.
In the early stages of the project I'll be reading the manuscript,
in the later stages; checking the printed proofs. Of course,
the job could be organised slightly differently in other publishing
companies.
Is this what you always wanted
to do?
So did you study something
related to that career choice?
How did you get your present
job?
What do you like most about
it?
It sounds a great job. Is
there anything that's not so good about it?
Any advice?
Do you look forward to work
every day?
