Interview with Hannah Barnes-Murphy, book editor. Age
24. Comes from Salisbury, Wiltshire.
What does a book editor do?
Is this what you always wanted
to do?
So did you study something
related to that career choice?
How did you get your present
job?
Well obviously I have a degree related to Phaidon's range
of titles but, importantly, I did relevant work experience
while I was at university. I managed to get two placements,
one at Oxford University Press and one at Cambridge University
Press, and these were incredibly important when it came to
getting a job. But it wasn't easy - you do have to be able
to sell yourself and to be prepared to be rejected. There
are a lot of people who want to work in publishing and not
enough jobs to go round.
What do you like most about
it?
It sounds a great job. Is
there anything that's not so good about it?
Any advice?
Do you look forward to work
every day?
