Interview with Simon Tegala, sculptor Age 27, comes from
London
How important is what
you do to you?
What are you working on
at the moment?
Did you always want to
be an artist?
But you did go to art
school?
What was your degree like?
What happened then?
Were you immediately established
as a sculptor?
No, the gallery deal didn't mean much financially and I was
completely broke when I came out of Goldsmiths, but at least
I had something to work for. I found a large space where I
could live and work and I could get on with my projects. I
got some work in special effects for commercials to earn some
money and I actually learnt a lot of useful skills. If you
see liquid effects on TV - like the chocolate in the Twix
or Mars Bar ads - then it's my work. I've also had to work
in telesales, as a cycle courier - anything really just to
fund my work.
Do you still have to do
other work?
So obviously you do look
forward to work every day?
