Interview with Freia Turland, photographer. Age 25. Comes
from Cheltenham.
What does your job involve?
What's a normal day like?
Did you always want to be
a press photographer?
How did you get into the press?
Which aspects do you like
the most?
Anything you don't like?
What about the financial rewards?
Any advice for aspiring press
photographers?
Get your camera out and start practising. Take pictures of
friends, family, neighbours. Go to your local paper and ask
for work experience. Don't be set back if people say no. Keep
asking. Remind people who you are and what you can do. Training
is important but press photography doesn't necessarily require
a degree in photography. There are photojournalism courses
run by the NCTJ, although these are tough to get onto.
Do you look forward to work
every day?
